Palazzo Morando and the Museum of Milan

In the heart of Milan’s “Quadrilatero della Moda“, there is a museum dedicated to the history of the city and its iconic fashion industry—a symbol of Milanese identity.

Housed within the sumptuously decorated and frescoed rooms of Palazzo Morando Attendolo Bolognini, the Museum of Milan offers a fascinating journey through the city’s past. With its elegant porticos, mosaic floors, and opulent interiors, Palazzo Morando embodies 16th-century architectural style and the refined tastes of the noble families who once lived here.

In the early 20th century, the palace was donated to the Municipality of Milan by Lydia Caprara Morando Bolognini, a countess and intellectual who passed away without heirs.

Later, in 2010, Palazzo Morando became home to Milan’s Museum of Fashion and Costume, solidifying its role as a cultural landmark for both history and style. Inside its 18th-century halls, visitors can admire a precious collection of paintings, evoking the landscapes and atmospheres of a Milan long gone—a visual journey spanning three centuries, from 17th-century Milan to the late 19th century.
